  • A controlled delivery system of NAM reduced cognitive impairment and decreased phosphorylated tau in early-stage AD rats.11

  • NAM pretreatment reduced expression of genes associated with AD and increased SIRT1 in brain tissues.12

More recently, a phase 2a proof-of-concept trial16 investigated the use of nicotinamide (a form of vitamin B3 and NAD+ precursor) in early Alzheimer’s disease:

  • 47 participants received either 1500 mg of nicotinamide twice daily or placebo for 12 months.

  • Treatment resulted in significantly less change on the Clinical Dementia Rating-Sum of Boxes (CDR-SB) compared to placebo.

  • While not statistically significant, changes in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers favored nicotinamide.

  • The therapy showed a safe profile with balanced adverse events.

Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN) vs Placebo

Outlined in the same 2021 review as above, NMN, a direct precursor to NAD+, has demonstrated efficacy in four AD models:

  • NMN improved memory in transgenic nematode AD models through a mechanism dependent on mitophagy.17

  • NMN treatment decreased Aβ production, synaptic loss, and inflammation in transgenic AD mice by inhibiting JNK activity.18

  • In Aβ-injected rats, NMN improved cognitive function, reduced neuronal cell death, and decreased oxidative stress.19

  • NMN reversed deficiencies in oxygen consumption and reduced levels of mutant APP in AD mice20.

The most recent study, conducted by Fang et al. in 201921, investigated the effects of NAD+ repletion on AD pathology using both animal models and human cell cultures.

The study found that NAD+ levels were significantly reduced in both the hippocampus and cerebral cortex of AD model mice. This depletion was associated with decreased activity of SIRT3, a NAD+-dependent deacetylase.

  • Improve hippocampal synaptic plasticity in diabetic mice and an Alzheimer’s disease mouse model

The Early Struggles: Living the Problem I Wanted to Solve

My name is Chuck Nix, and my journey to health advocacy has been a long road of personal struggle, revelation, and relentless perseverance. Born in Dallas, Texas, in 1959 and adopted at birth, I grew up in a household where processed and junk food reigned supreme.

By ninth grade, I weighed 210 pounds at 5’9″ and was already struggling with my weight and the desire to fit in. I attempted my first “diet” then, starving myself to lose weight, but I was constantly hungry, and the weight just came back. This set off a decades-long cycle of yo-yo dieting, reaching extremes. 

As an adult, standing at 6’2″, I hit a low of 160 pounds in 1985 through intense exercise and strict calorie restriction. But it was unsustainable—I was thin, not fit, and the weight eventually crept back on.

My weight was a constant battle—one that followed me through every phase of life. I tried calorie restriction, extreme exercise, and countless diets, all while following the outdated, low-fat, high-carb dietary advice of the time.

Over the years, my weight fluctuated wildly, reaching a high of 315 pounds in 2018. I nearly died that year. In my 20s and 30s, I tried everything I could think of: severe calorie restriction, sometimes eating only 1200 calories a day, paired with hours of exercise. But high-stress jobs and lack of time always led me back to quick meals at the drive-thru. 

Every time I lost weight, I seemed to gain it back with a vengeance.

In 1991, I met my biological family, and what I saw was eye-opening: my biological mother’s side of the family was obese, with one of my half-brothers even reaching 465 pounds. It was a warning of what could have been me without discipline. 

Around this time, I made a serious effort to get fit, following the low-fat advice of doctors, working out at two gyms, and jogging five miles daily. After six years of dedication, I’d only managed to get down to 240 pounds. I felt like a failure, but little did I know, I had been misled.

The turning point came in late 1999 when I discovered the Atkins Diet. 

The initial “induction phase” was ketogenic, and in just 3.5 months, I lost 60 pounds with zero exercise. I felt fantastic for the first time in years and was determined to finally achieve the fit, healthy body I had chased for so long. 

I hired a personal trainer, but he warned me that Atkins was dangerous and could destroy my liver and kidneys. Trusting his advice, I compromised, adding more carbs. 

The result? I gained 40 pounds of fat and became re-addicted to carbs. I ended up suing the gym and got my money back, but I felt utterly defeated.

For decades, I believed I was failing, but in reality, the system was failing me. 

Science now shows that the food pyramid we were taught to follow in the 1980s was built on flawed assumptions and industry influence. High-carb, low-fat diets were a recipe for insulin resistance, metabolic disorders, and cravings that kept us dependent on sugar-laden foods.

My health continued to spiral. By 2003, I’d made a career shift and finally achieved a dream of mine: founding my frozen dessert company, Silky Smooth Frozen Custard. 

This was the first Wisconsin-style frozen custard shop in Beverly Hills, and later evolved into Silky Smooth MicroCreamery, which won “Best Ice Cream in LA” in 2007. 

The shop attracted celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Tyra Banks, but it all came crashing down with the Great Recession in 2008. I lost everything—my business, my credit, my hope. From there, I hustled in the world of credit funding, eventually building up to a six-figure business. And then COVID hit, and it all crumbled once again.

The Breakthrough: Science Meets Personal Experience

In 2016, I stumbled across the show My Diet is Better Than Yours, which highlighted the ketogenic diet, helping a man in his late 50s lose significant weight. 

I was angry—had I been lied to all those years? More research led me to Dr. Eric Berg, who taught me the truth about keto and intermittent fasting. I finally found an approach that worked for me, dropping 100 pounds in nine months with no exercise. 

I felt decades younger, but more importantly, I felt in control for the first time. I learned that sugar was poison, and I became determined to help others find freedom from it.

Armed with this new knowledge, I decided to bring back my dessert brand as an all-keto operation. I spent years developing SilkySweet®, an all-natural, sugar-free sweetener that tasted better than cane sugar and cured my own sugar cravings. 

SilkySweet® was originally created to replace the “forced by law” use of Sucralose in Silky Smooth frozen desserts, reformulating them to meet future Ketogenic Certified health standards. Through extensive R&D, we developed a formula superior to cane sugar, leading me to market it globally as the ultimate, realistic cure for sugar addiction.

I even created SilkySweet KetoCola, a sugar-free cola that was preferred three to one over Mexican Coca-Cola in taste tests. Despite my breakthroughs, COVID delayed production, inflation spiked, and my business struggled to take off. Personal credit was once again destroyed, and I faced setback after setback.

From Personal Mission to National Movement

In 2022, I had a moment of clarity: my mission was bigger than just selling products. I needed to help Americans break free from the toxic food system that was driving chronic disease and obesity. 

Inspired, I initially came up with the concept of “Make America Healthy Again” (MAHA) and created a prototype purple hat to symbolize unity by merging red and blue. 

However, I soon evolved the phrase to “Making America Healthy Again” and produced 500 hats. 

The shift from “Make” to “Making” reflects a move from a campaign promise—set to expire on 11/5/24—to an active, ongoing mission of healing and curing, embodied by the world’s only realistic solution for sugar addiction: SilkySweet.com.

Like many breakthrough ideas that show up concurrently in different geographic areas and even cultures, this vision, MAHA, caught fire with movers and shakers, including Robert F. Kennedy Jr., long a champion of health reform. 

The first purple MAHA hats symbolized my call for unity across all demographics and political divides, with red and blue merging into purple, a call for health transformation and healing in America.

In 2023 I took a gamble and exhibited at an anti-aging/health event. I caught the bug and got Longevity Fever. 

I immersed myself in education and made contacts that have proven very beneficial for my MAHA movement. I had been taking an NAD+ supplement that was not working and discovered Jinfiniti Precision Medicine and their Vitality Boost NAD+ “Optimizer.” (The technical description of the product is actually NAD+ Booster supplement. Like so many other consumers who believe that all supplements are created equal, I got schooled in the importance of using data-driven, science-backed products, and in particular, the need to optimize my intracellular NAD. 

I met Dr. Jin-Xiong She, Jinfiniti’s Founder and Chief Scientist. 

Jinfiniti’s Special Projects Director, Greta Blackburn, was moderating a panel at the event and, upon hearing of my mission, introduced me to her panel member Dr. Robert Lufkin, author of “Lies I Taught In Medical School’ and a USC Professor. Dr. Lufkin and I shared so many common beliefs and he, like Dr. Eric Berg, who set me straight on Keto, are part of my semi-official Advisory Team as the mission moves forward. 

Dr. Lufkin and I touched base only briefly at that ’23 event but at the same event the following year we had time to share some conversations and today I reach out to him regularly for his expertise and highly material insights for the MAHA cause.

In 2024, something remarkable happened. After switching to a full carnivore diet, I received life-changing blood test results and adjusted my macros to 80% fat. 

Almost overnight, my vision, which had been compromised since I was a child, transformed. My eyesight returned sharper than ever—20/10 in both eyes—and I could see in 3D for the first time since childhood, all without the need for glasses or contact lense. 

I knew then that my mission was not only to heal myself but to bring real health solutions to every American.

The RFK Jr. Connection: A Shared Vision for Health Reform

In September 2024, I took MAHA to the Senate hearings in Washington, D.C., where I met Senator Ron Johnson, and Calley and Casey Means. Thanks to a friend who helped with travel costs, I witnessed firsthand the growing momentum for healthcare reform. I knew that MAHA was not just a vision but a movement with real potential to change lives.

It was recently announced that RFK Jr. is being appointed as the next Secretary of Health and Human Services. I am excited about the possibilities for my MAHA mission combined with his.

Sometimes we feel that our ideas, journeys, and trials and tribulations are all for naught. I’m here to tell you that we can all use our passion as fuel to make change. It takes work. It means sacrifice, but in the end, miracles can happen, relationships can be forged, and change can happen. 

Today, I work alongside pioneers like Dr. Jin-Xiong She, who introduced me to Jinfiniti’s anti-aging supplements, and Greta Blackburn- formerly known as The Telomere Diva for her part in the launch of TA Sciences, and for her role in developing and co-writing the layman’s book on telomeres, “The Immortality Edge”– who immediately saw the potential in MAHA.

Your body’s NAD+ levels follow a predictable pattern throughout life – and unfortunately, it’s a downward trend. Research shows that NAD+ levels peak during our early 20s and then begin a steady decline, with most people experiencing a 40-50% drop by age 50. But why does this happen? The answer lies in a perfect storm of biological events.

As we age, certain enzymes, particularly PARPs and CD38, become increasingly active and hungry for NAD+1. PARPs ramp up their activity to repair age-related DNA damage, while CD38 levels rise as part of our body’s inflammatory response to aging. It’s like having more bills to pay but with the same paycheck – something has to give.

At the same time, our body’s ability to produce new NAD+ takes a hit. The molecular building blocks (or precursors) that we use to make NAD+ become less available, and the cellular machinery (biosynthetic enzymes) that assembles these pieces slows down2. It’s similar to a factory facing both parts shortages and aging equipment – production inevitably drops.

This decline in NAD+ levels has real consequences for how we age. When cells can’t maintain healthy NAD+ levels, their energy production falters, DNA repair slows down, and cellular stress responses become sluggish. To put this in perspective, imagine filling a drop of water with different amounts of NAD – some cells maintain just a trace amount, while others keep a abundant supply, depending on their specific energy needs. Moreover, NAD+ activates sirtuins, proteins that help regulate glucose and fat metabolism. When NAD+ levels are low, sirtuin activity declines, making it harder for the body to control blood sugar and insulin sensitivity,14 which raises the risk of type 2 diabetes.

People with low NAD+ levels are also more prone to developing metabolic conditions like diabetes and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

Severe NAD+ Deficiency Symptoms

I’m not sure what I expected, but…

I was surprised when my dear friend’s cognition declined dramatically overnight at age 94. 

Sure, there had been some memory lapses over the course of his 93rd year.

When my dear friend reached and passed his 90th birthday with a mind sharp as a tack I assumed he was all clear.

His words weren’t making sense to me. Working on what? What did he mean?

He looked at me with a blank expression and replied, “I don’t know how.”

I flashed back to years earlier when a very beloved actor friend of mine had called me at my apartment in New York City. He was talking to me in disconnected, somewhat incoherent phrases that I couldn’t understand.

I asked him where he was and he somehow managed to tell me with words that made some sense that he was at the nearby Apple Store.

My friend was insisting that she sell him a new iPhone, which she explained to me she didn’t want to do because his current model phone was working just fine.

I asked him a few questions, which he answered only somewhat coherently. 

I apologized to the salesgirl and walked my friend out of the store. I found a bench where he could sit comfortably while I called his family at their home. 

They were understandably concerned when I told them about his condition. 

They were in another state but together we made the decision that I should get him to the nearest Urgent Care. 

The staff there quickly diagnosed a suspected stroke and, with their help, I hastily got my friend to a nearby hospital.

He spent a week in the hospital and recovered, but things could have gone in a whole other direction had I not jumped into action when I did.

Was Marshall suffering the effects of a stroke? I determined to keep a close eye on him throughout that entire day. 

I observed him sitting and staring into space from time to time, as though lost in thought. 

When I asked him what he was thinking about, he said, “I’m figuring something out,” and he would return to gazing off into the distance with a vacant stare.

From one day to the next my friend had forgotten how to use both his cellphone and his computer.

A battery of cognitive tests with a gerontology professional confirmed that he was experiencing mild to moderate dementia.

Is NAD a Healthy Weight-Loss Alternative to Ozempic?

Social media is burning up with images of celebrities who’ve dropped significant tonnage, but are mute about their methods.

This is an odd phenomenon, given the characteristic eagerness of this class to publicly pledge their allegiance to the newest fad, no matter how bizarre that craze might seem to the average person on the street. Yet, at each exhibition of luminary lipid loss, the same word is uttered in hushed whispers: Ozempic.

And we have to wonder, why the muted tones? If Ozempic is a miracle weight-loss drug, shouldn’t we be shouting about it from the rooftops? Turns out there are ample reasons to be wary, and even more reasons to choose a particular safe and effective alternative: the natural coenzyme NAD.

Step 1: Design a catchy ad campaign  

Want to charge $1,200 a month for an injection whose benefits are decidedly short-term, and which puts patients at risk for numerous painful, debilitating side-effects, as well as a dispiriting rebound of the conditions they sought to alleviate in the first place? Then you must, must, must pick a catchy, long-forgotten pop song from the 1970s, whose original lyrics were all about the wondrous state of being in love.

Now you’ve got “Oh-oh-oh-Ozempic!” subliminally telling viewers of ubiquitous pharma commercials that “It’s magic.” Fossils of my era will remember the Scottish band Pilot cautioning listeners, “Never believe it’s not so!” But should we believe the advertising hype around Ozempic? Many sources, including those in the health and fitness sphere outside of Big Pharma, are telling us “No.”  

What is Ozempic and why should I be skeptical?

According to the website Health.com1, Ozempic a semaglutide, a “synthetic version of a human hormone called glucagon-like peptide one, or GLP-1.” Humans secrete GLP-1 when food reaches our gut.

It tells our brain that we’re full and tells our pancreas to get off the schneid and produce some insulin, the hormone that signals our cells to open wide and receive blood glucose.

When all works well, GLP-1 ensures that we don’t gorge ourselves and that the vacuoles of our cells widen, taking in glucose to convert to energy. This latter process also lowers our blood glucose levels, sparing us the consequences of diabetically high blood sugar.

People with type II diabetes either don’t produce enough insulin or suffer from extreme insulin resistance, so that while their insulin’s a knockin’, their vacuoles are sayin’ “Don’t come in.” (This is a problem with cell-signaling, one of the many cellular functions that depend heavily on the co-enzyme nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, or NAD.)

Ozempic is designed to increase insulin production for type II diabetics who have had trouble getting their blood sugar under control with other methods. Ozempic is delivered via twice-monthly injections, at a cost of about $1,200 per month. 

Health.com tells us, “After injection, semaglutide increases insulin production and lowers blood sugar. This causes the stomach to empty more slowly, reduces appetite, and makes people feel full.” So, it should come as no surprise that Ozempic has delivered another sought-after benefit: weight loss.

Is the bonus benefit just a dangerous illusion?

The Ozempic bonus has led overweight people, especially celebrities who can afford the high price tag, to request the drug for weight loss, a use for which the FDA has not approved it.

Yet, doctors seem willing to prescribe Ozempic for off-label use, a practice that is often controversial if not illegal. In fairness to these doctors, we should note that another semaglutide prescription, Wegovy, has FDA approval as a weight-loss drug. But should either of these synthetic hormone drugs be used for this purpose?

A litany of side-effects, some of which are deadly

If you’ve seen an O-O-O-Ozempic commercial, you’ve heard the recitation of side effects, which range from unpleasant to deadly. The mild variety includes:
