Test before you start any NAD+ supplement, liposomal or not, then retest to see whether your level moved.

What Liposomal NAD+ Is and How It Differs From Regular NAD+

Liposomal NAD+ is NAD+ wrapped in liposomes, which are tiny bubbles made from the same kind of fat that forms the walls of your cells. NAD+ itself is a molecule every cell uses to turn food into energy and repair DNA, and levels tend to drop as you age.

Regular NAD+ supplements put the bare molecule in a capsule or powder. The liposomal version adds a fat coating, on the theory that it shields NAD+ from stomach acid and digestive enzymes so more of it reaches your blood. Think of it as bubble wrap for a fragile parcel.

Whether the bubble wrap survives the trip is the open question. Liposomes are delicate, so turning them into a dry capsule, or keeping them intact in a liquid on a shelf for months, takes careful manufacturing.

What the Research Shows for Liposomal NAD+

Nobody has tested liposomal NAD+ head to head in people, so the case for it rests on what plain NAD+ does when you swallow it and what liposomes do for other nutrients.

Regular Oral NAD+ and NADH

Swallowed NAD+ rarely reaches your cells in one piece. Researchers expect the gut to break it into smaller parts, such as nicotinamide, before it’s absorbed. Even the smaller building blocks get reworked on the way in. In mice, NR and NMN taken by mouth were mostly turned into nicotinamide by the liver, an animal result that shows how much processing happens before anything reaches your tissues.

Human trials of oral NAD+ are few. A review of 10 trials with 489 people found NADH (a close chemical cousin of NAD+) and NAD+ precursors were well tolerated, with mixed results across conditions such as chronic fatigue and Parkinson’s disease. None of those trials tested a liposomal form. This absorption problem is also why some people turn to NAD+ injections, which bring their own trade-offs.

Liposomal Vitamin C

Liposomes can help some nutrients get absorbed. In a one-dose study of 27 adults, liposomal vitamin C reached a 27% higher peak in the blood than the same amount of regular vitamin C. That’s a real gain, measured over one day with one commercial product.

Vitamin C is a small, sturdy molecule, though. NAD+ is larger and breaks down more easily, so the vitamin C result shows the technology can help some nutrients and leaves the NAD+ question open.

Liposomal NAD+ Itself

When we searched the medical literature in October 2026, we found no published human trial that measured NAD+ levels after people took liposomal NAD+. Most of what you’ll read comes from manufacturers’ own lab work or from logic borrowed from vitamin C. It may still work for you. Nobody has shown it in people yet, so your own test result is the best evidence you’ll get.

Liposomal NAD vs NMN and NR

If your goal is to raise NAD+, NAD+ precursors have the stronger record. These are smaller building blocks that your cells turn into NAD+ themselves, and several have been tested in people.

NMN and NR are the two best studied. In an early human study, single doses of NR raised blood NAD+ in step with the dose, from 100 mg up to 1,000 mg.

NMN has a similar record. In a 60-day trial of 80 adults, blood NAD+ rose at every dose tested and was highest in the two largest dose groups. A 2026 review of 33 human studies found the same pattern across the field: NR and NMN reliably raise NAD+ markers, while effects on how people feel and perform are mixed.

Liposomal NAD+

NMN

NR

What it is

NAD+ inside a fat coating

A building block one step from NAD+

A building block two steps from NAD+

Human trials that measured NAD+

None published that we found

Several, lasting weeks to months

Several, from single doses to months

Doses tested in people

No human data

Mostly 250 to 900 mg a day

100 to 1,000 mg a day

What you’ll pay for

The delivery system

The ingredient

The ingredient

How to check it’s working

Intracellular NAD+ test before and at 4 to 6 weeks

Same test, same timing

Same test, same timing

You don’t have to pick only one building block, either. Our guide to choosing an NAD booster compares single precursors with formulas that combine them.

How to Check a Liposomal NAD+ Label

If you’d still like to try liposomal NAD+, a few label checks help you tell a careful product from a hopeful one.

Liposomal NAD+ Liquids

Liquids are where liposomes usually keep their shape best, because they’re made and stored in fluid. Look for the NAD+ amount per serving in mg, a best-by date and clear storage instructions. A liquid with no storage advice at all is a small red flag.

Liposomal NAD+ Capsules and Softgels

Dry forms are harder to keep liposomal, since pressing and drying can break the bubbles apart. Ask the brand for evidence that intact liposomes are in the finished capsule, plus a batch certificate showing how much NAD+ it holds.

Whatever the form, run it through this list before you buy:

NAD+ listed in mg per serving, not tucked inside a proprietary blend

A certificate of analysis for your batch from a third-party lab

Some proof the liposomes survive in the finished product, such as particle-size testing

Storage instructions and a best-by date on the bottle

Only the extras you actually want. Many liposomal products add resveratrol, quercetin or TMG, which changes what you’re testing.

How to Test Whether Your NAD+ Supplement Is Working

A test answers the question faster than any label. Intracellular NAD+ testing measures the NAD+ inside your blood cells in µM (micromoles per liter), so you can see what your supplement is doing.

Test before you start. Dr. She’s framework sets 40 to 100 µM as the optimal range.

Take one product at the same dose every day, and keep the rest of your routine steady.

Retest at four to six weeks. In the NMN trial above, blood NAD+ was already up by day 30.

If you’re still under 40 µM, change the dose or switch products, then test again.

We use this same loop for every NAD+ product, ours included. “A liposome is a promise about delivery,” says Dr. Jin-Xiong She. “The test is how you check the promise. If someone likes their liposomal product, I’d simply ask them to measure before and after and let the number decide.”

If you’d rather start with something that has data behind it, our NAD+ supplements and test kits include Vitality↑® NAD+ Booster, which pairs NMN with niacinamide, D-ribose and creatine. In Jinfiniti’s own four-week study, 22 of 26 adults taking two scoops a day reached Dr. She’s optimal range.

NAD+ is one marker among many in how you age. Both our Cellular Essentials and Ultimate Longevity panels include intracellular NAD+ along with markers such as ApoB, HbA1c and hs-CRP, so our longevity blood panels show your NAD+ next to your heart and blood sugar numbers.

Liposomal NAD+ Side Effects and Who Should Check First

Oral NAD+ products have a good short-term safety record in trials, though liposomal NAD+ hasn’t been tested on its own.

Common Side Effects

In the oral NADH and precursor trials covered by the review above, side effects were mild. Muscle aches, headaches, tiredness and trouble sleeping came up most often, and none were judged a serious risk.

Who Should Talk to a Clinician First

Check with your clinician before starting liposomal NAD+ if any of these apply:

You’re pregnant or breastfeeding, since there’s no safety data

You have a history of cancer, because NAD+ also supports fast-growing cells in lab studies

You take diabetes medicines or several prescriptions

You have a soy or sunflower allergy, since many liposomes are made from lecithin

Under Dr. She’s framework, levels above 100 µM aren’t likely to add benefit, which is another reason to test rather than keep raising the dose. Talk with your clinician about dose if you take any prescription medicine.

How Jinfiniti Can Help

You’ve bought liposomal NAD+, or you’re eyeing a bottle, and you want to know if it does anything.

Our Intracellular NAD+ Test measures NAD+ inside your cells. The B3 family includes niacin and niacinamide, also called nicotinamide, and your cells turn each form into NAD+ along slightly different routes.

Which is better, NAD or glutathione?

Neither replaces the other, because they do different jobs. NAD+ helps cells make energy and repair DNA, while glutathione is your cells’ main antioxidant. Our comparison of NAD+ and glutathione covers when each one matters.

How long does liposomal NAD take to work?

Nobody knows yet, because it hasn’t been timed in people. For NMN, blood NAD+ was up within 30 days in trials. Retest at four to six weeks to see where your level settles.

Can you take liposomal NAD with NMN or NR?

You can, but stacking makes it hard to tell which product moved your number. Start one at a time, test, then add the next. Talk with your clinician about combined doses.

Does liposomal NAD need to be refrigerated?

Follow the label. Some liquid liposomal products ask for refrigeration after opening, because heat can break liposomes down. If the label gives no storage advice, ask the brand before you buy.

🧬 Related Reading

Sublingual NMN vs Capsules: Which is Best for Absorption?

NAD Dosage Guide: Optimal Daily Amounts, Timing, and Forms

The 6 Most Common NAD+ Deficiency Symptoms

References

Liu L, Su X, Quinn WJ, et al.
